University of Nevada Oral History Program
Master Index

The UNOHP's multi-volume index has now been compiled into one master index covering the years from 1965 to the present. Because of the size of the file, we cannot display the index as a Web page, but it is available as a PDF file (see link below). (The PDF file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing. Most computers come equipped with this program, but if you do not have it installed, click here to download this program for free.)

You can access the master index here, but we would suggest that you first read the rest of this page to get a better understanding of how to use the index.

Before going to the master index page, here are some helpful search hints. If you would like to search on the entire UNOHP site, please use the "Search" box at the top of each page. It is also possible, however, to search only within the master index. If you would like to do this, first download the master index file by clicking on the link below. To look for a word or name, either go under "Edit" in the menu and select "Find" or click on the binoculars on the task bar at the top of the screen, then enter the word. That will find the first occurrence of a word. To search for additional occurrences, either go under "Edit" and select "Find Again" or click on the binocular icon with the arrow (to the right of the regular binoculars). This will allow you to search the entire master index.

Please note that the alphabetization is based on a computer sort of the entries, so there may be some differences from what one might otherwise expect. For example, "Smith Valley" will be listed before "Smith, Harold". That is because the comma in the second entry counts as a character, so "Smith" followed by a comma would come after "Smith" followed by a space. If you are doing searches using the procedure listed above, this should pose no problem. If you are browsing the index, however, please keep this in mind.

For more information on how this index was compiled, please view the section on how to use this index.

PLEASE NOTE: The presence of a person's name in the index does not necessarily mean that an oral history has been done with that individual. A listing in the index indicates that a person was mentioned in an oral history, and the information following the person's name will let you know whom the interview was with and on what page(s) the reference appears.

The index is updated on a regular basis. If you have any questions about the index, please call Mary Larson at the UNOHP at 775/784-6932 or contact us via e-mail at ohp@unr.nevada.edu. (Please note: The file size on the index is large, so please be patient while it loads.)
